COBISS.SI-ID: 6746138The patent application relates to a conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) polyHIPE hydrogel consisting of a ?-conjugated backbone and a plurality of ionizable pendant groups, capable of absorbing up to 30 times the mass of water as compared to the state-of-the-art, while exhibiting visible light photoactivity as evidenced by absorption in the visible light range with the absorption edge at 550 nm. The patent application is currently in the first phase (TRL 3-4), where the technology concept has been validated for the synthesis of various CPE polyHIPE hydrogels and further used as photocatalysts in the proof-of-concept laboratory experiments for the photodegradation of water-soluble endocrine disrupting compounds such as bisphenol A (BPA) under visible light. In addition, we were awarded the NICKI grant by the NIC to scale up the synthesis of CPE polyHIPE hydrogels photocatalysts to 100 g scale and to validate the photocatalytic activity at a pilot scale, an industrially relevant environment (TRL 5).

Dr. Kržan was one of two interview guests in the popular weekly TV show “Studio City” on RTV Slovenia. The interview was initiated by a newly published scientific article announcing the discovery of microorganisms able to degrade microplastics. The show has a very high number of viewers and many followers.

COBISS.SI-ID: 4701519E. Žagar gave an invited lecture in the field of light scattering of macromolecular solutions, emulsions and suspensions in combination with chromatographic and AF4 separation techniques at Wyatt Technology Europe (September, 2018; COBISS.SI-ID 6512922), a global manufacturer of light scattering detectors. Due to the great interest of the Wyatt Technology's customers, Dr. Žagar prepared a webinar with the title: »Separation and Characterization of Macromolecular and Supramolecular Structures by Light Scattering«, which was presented on February 26, 2019. The teaching material is available on the manufacturer's website at the link: https://www.wyatt.com/library/webinars/separation-and-characterization-of-macromolecular-and-supramolecular-structures-by-light-scattering-webinar-by-zagar.html.
