The invention relates to a process for the preparation and isolation of carboxylic esters. Said process is based on the reaction of a carboxylic acid with an alcohol in the aqueous medium. In order to do so, the alcohol is used for both esterifying and precipitating the salts obtained during synthesis, preferably ammonium salts.

COBISS.SI-ID: 21546262The invention relates to torrefaction. It is a mild pyrolysis used to improve the properties of biomass. The production of solid biofuels by torefication from various biomass sources has proven to be a very efficient alternative to coal in industrial applications due to its economic and technological capabilities.
F.33 Slovenian patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 22565398The present invention belongs to the field of compounds having therapeutic activity, more precisely to the field of compounds targeting the glycolytic pathway. The invention relates to seven compounds that dock to the ATP binding site of the cancer specific 6-phosphofructo-1-kinase (PFK1), inhibit its activity and significantly decrease redundant NADH formation and concomitantly lactate generation by the cancer cells. The targeted enzyme is believed to be the pivotal factor of deregulated glycolytic flux in cancer cells (Warburg effect) characterized by abundant lactate production that enables immune escape by cancer cells and triggers angiogenesis and metastases.

COBISS.SI-ID: 6452762A popular article about tannins. Tannins are plant secondary metabolites, which means that the plant - in contrast to proteins and carbohydrates - does not need them directly for growth or reproduction, but performs other functions in the plant. Their job is to protect the plant from herbivores, microorganisms and environmental stress. In addition to their importance to plants, tannins are also industrially important chemicals. Namely, they are used for tanning leather, as an ingredient in adhesives and protective coatings for wood, and throughout history they have also been used to prepare ink. In modern times, we try to control the growth of bacteria in animal husbandry, and we also study their antioxidant and anti-cancer properties.

COBISS.SI-ID: 41431811A popular article on the current topic of COVID-19 was published. The FKKT UM team, in collaboration with scientists from the UK and China, has devised a new approach to identifying viruses and bacteria that could speed up the identification of the exact type of infection. This also applies to COVID-19, where waiting for a smear result is particularly problematic. The findings of this group of researchers were recently published in the scientific publication Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA with an impact factor close to 10. This is only the fourth publication in this prestigious multidisciplinary journal in the history of the University of Maribor.
