Dating from the late eighteenth century, the Poljane Manuscript is an interesting subject of methodologically diverse analyses. Taking the Poljane Manuscript as an example, we show the factors that must be taken into account in a critical assessment: the script, the language situation, the level of language development and the text's transmission, so that individual text renderings can be appropriately categorised as normal or acceptable variants, scribal errors, or renderings that cannot be unambiguously defined as normal or incorrect. In conclusion, selected element according TEI Guidelines for marking this categories, are presented.

First, the Poljane manuscript was presented and the main factors that we have to take into account, when analyzing an older text, were discussed. At the conclusion we showcased some of the most interesting dilemmas.
