This article presents a theoretical and methodological basis for lexicographic presentation of phraseological and paremiological variants in the third edition of Slovar slovenskega knjižnega jezika (Standard Slovenian Dictionary, eSSKJ), which has been published on the Fran portal, and in Slovar pregovorov in sorodnih paremioloških izrazov (Dictionary of Slovenian Proverbs and Similar Paremiological Expressions, SPP), the first volume of which will be published in 2020 on the same lexicographic portal. The need for accurate lexicographic presentation of variants in both dictionaries is then discussed. This is followed by a description of various methods of corpus analysis and combining them with data from sociolinguistic surveys.

We define an unconventional reply as a fixed, unpredictable, inadequate, and usually humorous or absurd reply by person B to a statement by person A. The replies constitute a special type of phrasemes (subtype of phraseological replies) and are a special paremiological genre. Research conducted among 209 Slovene speakers is presented. We determine passive and active knowledge of twenty unconventional replies and the degree to which they are recognized as units belonging to a specific genre. We also present a list of other unconventional replies and variants.

In the article we use formal-constructional and semantic features to define unconventional replies as a special type of phrasemes (subtype of phraseological replies) and as a special paremiological genre. We define them as fixed and inadequate, mostly humorous or absurd reply of a person B to a statement of a person A. Pilot research conducted on 192 Slovak speakers is presented. We determine passive and active knowledge of 20 unconventional replies and the degree to which they are recognized as units belonging to a specific type and genre. We also present a list of other unconventional replies and variants. These findings provide valuable insight into the relative magnitude of the paremiological genre.

Paremiological text introducers are expressions with which paremiological units are presented in written and spoken communication They provide rich information on paremiology and the attitude of the speakers towards paremiology. During lexicographical work which includes a lot of corpus analysis and analysis of other texts as well the collection of text introducers has been established. We will show how text introducers gathered in Gigafida, slWaC and Janes corpora and their numerous variants can be found even more systematically in the same three corpora and the Siparl corpus with the use of the Corpus querry language. We will examine the usage of the text introducers as rhetorical tools of the parlamentary speeches in the Slovenian parliament.

Two hundred paremiological expressions from four different sources have been analyzed with the help of language corpora and questionnaires. Of interest was the contemporary usage of the units analyzed (and their variants) and the possibility of determining their meaning with the help of the context they are used in. A list of the two hundred units analyzed is presented with the results of the analysis and an estimation of the quality of the four paremiological sources. The units with proven contemporary usage and determined meaning will be included in the first issue of the growing online Dictionary of Proverbs and Similar Paremiological Expressions.
