A survey of the noble family of Gall in the Middle Ages was conducted. For this purpose, all available archival and edited sources were collected, on which basis a detailed genealogical and possessory investigation of all branches of the family was drawn up. In presenting the family history, all previously known findings were taken into account, and were largely supplemented and corrected. Within the history of the family, all locations where individual members of the family had or acquired land ownership - these are larger parts of central and eastern Carniola and individual possession islands in the Primorska region – were thoroughly studied. These findings were included in the corpora of sources of the historical topography of Primorska and Carniola.
