In the paper (Folk) singing in language(s) of Other? the importance of the folklore studies’ paradigmatic shift from the study of an artefact to the research of the folk repertoire in a certain community including all the inconsistency and different genres is stressed. In this way not only the social nature of folklore is highlighted but analysis turns its focus to these activities and their significance for the actors. These is especially highlihted in the case of border region of todays Slovenia and Italy where the songs in different languages of the crossborder region had been sung.

COBISS.SI-ID: 44800045The article discusses the multilingual creativity of the South Tyrolean chivalric world traveler, poet, musician, singer, and composer, Oswald von Wolkenstein who worked in the first half of the fifteenth century. It focuses on three of his songs which are relevant for Slovenians – on the song “Es fügt sich”, the song “Bog de p[ri]mi was dustu da” which begins with the Slovenian salutation known from Ulrich von Liechtenstein, and the love song “Do fraig amors” where the use of Slovenian plays a special role.

Besides that it also offers a look at the present situation. Based on the author's research work among the Gottscheers in Slovenia, Austria, Germany, USA and Canada it shows the significance of Gottscheer songs for the identifications of the present day Gottscheers (in diaspora). At the same time, it touches on "forgotten" intercultural contacts and coexistence in Kočevska before the Second World War, which still reflects in singing and music.
