Based on the reputation and knowledge in the field of heat treatment of tool steels dr. Podgornik was invited to give an invited talk on heat treatment of tool steels, focused on new heat treatment strategies. The aim of the presentation was to show the effect of deep cryogenic treatment on fracture toughness, wear resistance and load-carrying capacity of different tool steels and to elaborate on the effectiveness of deep cryogenic treatment depending on the tool steel type and chemical composition. Effect was analyzed and presented on the example of different tool steels, heat treated using three combinations of austenitizing and tempering temperatures and novel process of deep cryogenic treatment.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1443498The aim of this research work was to investigate the effect of deep cryogenic treatment on corrosion and wear resistance of tool steels and to determine how these properties are related to steel composition and mechanical properties obtained (hardness, fracture toughness). Investigation was performed on two coldwork tool steels and one high-speed steel all produced by powder metallurgy. Deep cryogenic treatment was combined with different heat treatment parameters resulting in high hardness/low toughness, medium hardness/medium toughness and low...
