The paper presents professionalization of private security and private detective activity. Occupations in the field of private security are better legally protected than private detective profession. Among other characteristics of the process of professionalization, the professional ethics and professional associations are highly expressed. It is worse in the field of professional journals and public relations, because private security is still poorly recognized in society. For the successful further development of private security and private detective activity, the field of education and training will has to be finally regulated, the unfair competition will has to be prevented, while private security personnel will have to be provided with higher salaries.

In the paper, the development of professionalization of penological profession and the prison staff are presented. Professionalization of penological profession can be divided into three periods: 1) 1945-1968 (military and militant influence that was reflected in authoritarianism and rigid interpersonal relations between prison workers and prisoners), 2) 1969-1991 (prevailing of treatment over the security component) and 3) 1991 to the present protection of rights of prisoners and their treatment in accordance with existing European standards). Moreover, limitations of the process of professionalization, which should be eliminated in the further process of professionalization, are presented.

The paper presents the symbiosis between smart cities and policing. It specifically focuses on implications of smart cities on effectiveness of policing and introduces trends related to development of different policing styles. Smart cities technologies and services also have a great potential for criminal investigations and criminal intelligence as they provide information upon which police can develop investigations or crime-control strategies. Vice-versa police can provide guidelines for developers and the governance of smart cities.
