Publicly accessible data on environmental LF-MF exposure contribute to the increased awareness of the lay public and reduce the unfounded fears about EMF. In Slovenia, in relation to HV-PL, TS and other LF-MF sources there is an outsized perception of a high risk regardless of the actual situation and real extent of risk. This leads to conflicts, such as fierce public opposition to constuction of new infrastructure such as the Beričevo-Divača NV-PL. This opposition creates direct additional costs to the investors and prolongs the construction time. Publicly accessible data about the actual LF-MF levels offer an insight into the real situation regarding the exposure of the population and thus on the actual level of related health risk. The findings of our research, main conclusions and recommendations will be presented on the web portal SLORA (www.slora.si) edited by the national Institute of Oncology in the frame of the Office of epidemiology and the Slovenian cancer registry, which has in the last five years become the key national tool for communication between the expert and lay public on cancer epidemiology. The public awareness regarding the findings of the project will additionally be improved by the information published on the web portals of the project partner institutions (Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Ljubljana, Institute of Non-ionizing Radiation, Institute of Oncology) and the project Forum EMF aimed at explaining the EMF topics to the lay public through objective, unbiased and scientifically-based information, addressing the concerns of the governental and non-governmental institutions, local communities, companies, media, and general public.
