The members of the program group were co-organizers of two scientific meetings. As a more important achievement between the two, we present an international crystallographic meeting in which several members of the program group participated. Below is a reference to the second meeting where a member of the program group was a co-organizer. The 27th Slovenian-Croatian crystallographic meeting (SCCM2019) was organized in Rogaška Slatina, between June 19-23, 2019. There were 55 attendees from eight different countries – Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Ukraine and India. There were four plenary lectures held by Dr. Petra Bombicz (Research Centre for Natural Sciences, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest, Hungary), Prof. Dr. Piero Macchi (University of Bern, Switzerland), Dr. Martina Vrankić (Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb, Croatia) and Dr. Matic Lozinšek (University of Ljubljana, Facult of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, and Institute Jožef Stefan, Ljubljana, Slovenia). Other participants presented the results of their research in a form of short oral presentations. Collaboration with the business sector (sponsors) helped in organization of the meeting which was without conference fee for all participants. The following members of the research program were also members of the organizing committee of SCCM2019: Amalija Golobič, Anton Meden (head - achievement B.02 Chairing of a programme committee of a conference), Andrej Pevec and Marta Počkaj. B.01 Organiser of a scientific meeting
COBISS.SI-ID: 1538250947I have visited the group of Prof. P. B. Messersmith at prestigious campus Berkeley (University of California) in the frame of Slovenian-American bilateral cooperation (project of Slovenian Research Agency). In addition to discussions about the joint project I have delievered a lecture for members of his research group. In this talk I had presented historically the studies in which I had been involved, with focus on most relevant current projects. I have thus shown results on metal complexes of antibacterial agents quinolones, ruthenium complexes of hydroxyquinolines and diketonates, and especially the metal complexes of pyrithione and its analogues. The latter complexes have namely been main joint point for establishing the cooperation between the groups. Zinc-pyrithione (ZnP) is known for excellent antimicrobial properties which is already in commercial use (shampoos, ointments). Large group of zinc (and other) pyrithione complexes have been isolated in our group and these results were thoroughly described. Since group of P. B. Messersmith is deeply involved in the design of polymeric antimicrobial coatings, we had analyzed our preliminary results and made plans for future activities. COBISS.SI-ID: 1647919The textbook Exercises in the Structure and Properties of Solids by Amalija Golobič, Marta Počkaj and Anton Meden is a peer-reviewed university textbook intended primarily for study literature in the subject Structure and properties of solids at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. It can also help students of other chemical or technological fields, as well as users of X-ray powder diffraction at institutes and from industry, as it discusses the theoretical foundations and practical aspects of using several crystallographic methods. The textbook presents the diffraction image of a polycrystalline sample and its use, computer identification of solid samples, quantitative X-ray powder analysis, indexing and determination of unit cell parameters, symmetry in crystals, drawing crystal structures and databases of crystal structures. The textbook is not only important as study literature. Its important role is also related to the fact that it is written in Slovene and introduces crystallographic scientific terminology into the Slovene language. COBISS.SI-ID: 304033792In the first place, we mention the participation of a member of the program group in the events marking the centenary of the University of Ljubljana, followed by references to achievements in similar categories. In 2019 we have celebrated the centennial of the University of Ljubljana, educational institution that can be regarded as s successor of Jesuit higher education and university studies from the period of the Illyrian provinces, organized within the Écoles Centrales or the Academy in Ljubljana (Académie de Laybach). The University of Vienna undoubtedly set an important example in the establishment of chemical studies within the Technical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. Three of the first professors of chemistry at the University of Ljubljana studied and received their doctorates in Vienna: Maks Samec, Marij (Marius) Rebek and Salvislav Jenčič. They have implemented at the newly established university the organizational, pedagogical and research model they had come to know at the University of Vienna, especially since both Maks Samec and Marij Rebek had been researching at the University of Vienna for several years; Samec at several different institutes (departments) of the University of Vienna, and Rebek as a researcher and assistant at II.
