In this work a micro packed-bed reactor was theoretically and experimentally characterized. A residence time distribution (RTD) was predicted by lattice Boltzmann method, where the numerical simulations were in good agreement with biosensor-based RTD experiments. A reactor with immobilized lipase B was very efficient for selected esterification. Modeling-based design of very efficient scale-up of the packed-bed reactor enabled high productivities.
