This publication is partly rooted in my previous work, although it is connected with the topic of my actual postodoctoral research. In this paper I analize the memory of the war and the break-up of Yugoslavia in three novels by David Alabahari, written during the end of 1990s. I concentrate on three different concepts of collective responsibility formed in thesennovels. I show that literary novel can function as a medium of cultural memory, but this is a complex process that depends on the relationship between literary work, author's public persona, and social context.
