The thematic module “Internet use” was developed by researchers from the Centre for Social Informatics, FDV UL, and was included in the SJM program 2018. Integrated research of the sociological aspects of information and communication technologies (ICT), especially the internet, is very important for understanding the role of ICT in Slovenian society and their social effects. The thematic module is based on the theories of digital inequality. Within this framework, the modes of access to the internet, the use of the internet and their specific consequences were examined in detail. The indirect use of the internet was also considered, both from the point of view of those who offer indirect use and those who are using it, with an emphasis on the relationship between the provider and the recipient in informal contexts, specific types of uses, and the reasons for engagement in indirect internet use. The thematic block also included an assessment of the usefulness of the internet and an assessment of the individual's digital skills. A specific set of questions was also designed to understand internet non-users, their specific reasons for non-use and involvement in indirect use of the internet.

COBISS.SI-ID: 36017757The purpose of the field survey was to obtain data on (non-)use of new technologies and the internet, related services and the attitude towards these technologies among the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia, who are over 18 years of age. The survey questionnaire was designed as one of the field research modules within the project Slovensko javno mnenje 2018/1 (SJM 18/1), conducted by the Centre for the Research of Public Opinion and Mass Communication (CJMMK) FDV UL. It consisted of 40 substantive questions (V1 to V40), which together contained 211 variables or input fields. A large part of the questions concerned only respondents with certain characteristics (e.g. internet users), so respondents answered only some of these questions. In the summary review, 24 questions are presented, which refer to the demographic characteristics of the respondents. The summary statistics for individual survey questions is presented in tables. For questions/variables, which are measured on the nominal scale, the frequency distribution of categories or answers is provided. In the case of questions/variables, which are measured at least on ordinal scale, the tables contain calculations of mean values and standard deviations besides the summary of the frequency distribution of categories.
