In contribution we checked whether the signal of water (H2O) enriched in the isotopic ratio 18O/16O can be detected in the oxygen signature of CO2 coming from the tree stem respiration. In greenhouse 6 tree saplings (Quercus pubescens Willd) were potted in 12l containers. All seedlings were equipped with a radial-circumference-open-dynamic chambers. Continuous stable isotopic composition measurements of surrounding air and tree stem respired CO2, with a radial-circumference-open-dynamic chamber design, were done using Off-Axis Integrated Cavity Output Spectroscopy (OA-ICOS) implemented in CCIA-46 instrument (Los Gatos Research, CA, USA). All 6 seedlings were regularly irrigated with 100 ml tap water with isotopic oxygen signature -38.72 ‰ (V-PDB scale). On the label day 3 seedlings were irrigated with 100 ml of water enriched in isotopic ratio 18O/16O with signature 171.02 ‰ (V-PDB scale). Signal (d18O in H2O) was observed in stem respired CO2 (d18O) and we can confirm that signal of water (H2O) enriched in 18O/16O isotope ratio can be seen in CO2 derived from stem respiration.
