The main purpose of the paper is to determine charring and char front temperature in wood exposed to elevated temperatures, using the Broido-Shafizadeh pyrolysis model (BS model). Two studies of charring development for different heating regimes were carried out. The first study considers the development of temperatures in wood according to the empirical model calibrated for standard fire exposure. This study shows that the BS model accurately evaluates the development charring. In the second study the charring of wood exposed to simple linear temperature developments was investigated. The analysis showed that slower development of temperatures leads to a lower char front temperature and vice versa.
