COBISS.SI-ID: 42439213The paper discusses the conditions of the Isonzo war zone in the period between the end of the battles on the front and the end of the war between Italy and Austria-Hungary.: i.e. the physical conditions of the territory, the demographical conditions, the political conditions, the pretensions of the Italian occupying authorities to exercise their authority over the former occupied territories despite the (temporary) withdrawal of the offices to Padua. The physical conditions had been marked by a sheer devastation and the first steps to reconstruction had been made during the intermediate period between Caporetto and Vittorio Veneto. Simultaneously the returns of the refugees had been conditioned by the state of the destruction and reconstruction.

COBISS.SI-ID: 42438189The paper analyses the situation in the newly annexed region of Prekmurje to the Kingdom of SHS from the point of view of the changing and redefinition of local identites after the dissolution of Austria-Hungary. The social and cultural reality of the region did not quite fit the ethnolinguistic premises held by the Slovene officials, who were sent there in order to establish a new administration and initiate the process of integration. The paper thus explores the political, administrative, cultural and ethnic conditions in the region, in order to set the framework for further investigation on the attempts to »slovenisize« the region by repopulate it with the migrants from the Littoral.
