Since 2012, the Internet Research programme members organize an annual Web Survey Day. The target audience are professional public users of web surveys and 1KA users. The event is attended annually by over 200 people interested in the latest advances and trends in web survey methodology and new functionalities of 1KA. In 2019, we hosted Mick Couper, PhD (University of Michigan, USA), who presented the challenges of mobile surveys. In 2020, the event was held on the ZOOM platform. The keynote speaker was Vasja Vehovar, PhD, who presented the main trends in online surveys and novelties of 1KA.
F.24 Improvements to existing system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
The first development version of an Android application for collecting survey and sensor data on mobile devices has been developed. It already enables integrated retrieval of both data types by supporting display of web survey questionnaires and survey notifications as well as advanced services for location tracking and activity recognition. Developed were also features for continuous survey data collection according to preset intervals, which enable the direct utilisation of the application for diary and similar studies. A special attention was devoted to the collection of diagnostic data collection paradata, which will be particularly important for the experimental studies that are going to be conducted in the project. The application presents an important innovation as it combines advanced solutions for integrated survey and sensor data collection with a focus on general usability for a variety of substantive research purposes.
F.15 Development of a new information system/databases
COBISS.SI-ID: 597675551KA is an open-source software for web surveying, developed by the Centre of Social Informatics. The tool is used for internal research purposes of the centre and available to other users free of charge. It has almost 100,000 users, including enterprises and governmental institutions. As part of the project activities, new features have been implemented to support the integration of mobile devices with web surveys. The development versions of these extensions already enable management of mobile application data collection (achievement 1) and storage of data and paradata provided by the application.
F.16 Improvements to an existing information system/databases
COBISS.SI-ID: 30211677NextPin platform is successfully used in the industry as a part of the MACH (Mobile AI Communication hardware) product installed in smoe of Adria Mobil motorhomes. NextPin algorithms are used to be able to automatically learn important Points of interests (POI) of the vehicles. This part is in the process of being patented and is not yet public.
