The JRC study “Synthesis centres on innovative wastewater treatment” was focused on the assessment of WW treatment technologies appropriate for small settlements in the Lower Danube Region, by analysing SBR, constructed wetlands, evapotranspiration system, and algae base technology, and highlighting advantages and disadvantages. Detailed analysis of the selected technologies was carried out in detail, taking into account national strategies, sectoral legislation, needs and wishes of end users, and financial capacities of involved stakeholders (e.g. municipalities, water authorities) to extract technical and financial parametric data for scaling up ther application of the selected alternatives to the whole project area (Slovenia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia).
