Quality of life has been discussed under various terms (such as well-being, welfare, social quality). Its definitions and measures vary, but generally it comprises the spheres for which the state and local authority departments are held responsible and are subject to their public policies. Governing these domains involves various actors coming from all sectors - the public, the market, the civil society and the informal sector. However, recently it is the local community that is gaining an increasing role not only because of its better understanding and proximity to daily lives of people, but also because of its ability to include local population into formation, provision and evaluation of welfare services and thus to empower them. In our contribution we have discussed general starting points with regard to significance of local communities and to local population’s participation in provision of local welfare. In addition we have focused on three particular domains and on the local community role in attending to their recent challenges: old-age care in community and its variability across Slovenija; health and the contribution of local community to its improvement; the housing quality of the elderly. https://www.kongres-obcin.si/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/1_3_MANDIC.pdf

COBISS.SI-ID: 2813009This Study analyses existing situation in Slovenia concerning the rights and benefits for employees who care for other relatives, not just for close family members. In particular, we are concerned with how they are covered in existing national legislation, sectoral collective agreements and companies. We also present national law related to associative discrimination. The analysis shows that existing legislation tend to favour working parents and does not address the needs of employees who care for elderly parents and other relatives; that only 10% of the existing collective agreements include measures for carers of the elderly and introduce additional entitlements, and that only few companies offer family-friendly benefits for carers other than parents.
