[COBISS.SI-ID 512695352] Description We have developed several new solutions in the field of wound dressings, as well as other modern solution in the field of regenerative medicine, all with high potential for future use in clinical practice. Some of our solutions are already in clinical trials, meaning that these were already reviewed and approved by the Commission for Medical Ethics. This approval is another confirmation of the right orientation of our efforts towards clinical implementation. Biocompatible carrier materials used in these studies will be also tested in the course of this research programme and be part of potential solutions in the development of novel solutions in regenerative medicine. In most of the named sources we used also two of the most interesting techniques in biomedical sciences, namely electrospinning and 3D bioprinting, which are used in this programme as part of the strategy to capture and release probiotic bacteria and different human cells in a controlled manner.

At the same time we focused on introduction of the latest approaches of medical education, based on virtual patients and advanced simulators in various courses in the field of medicine and related sciences. Finally, we also focused on developing new user interfaces, which enable a significantly easier integration of the various population groups with different needs (patients with severe disabilities, elderly people with no knowledge of the use of modern technologies) into an increasingly advanced daily life and medical care.

[COBISS.SI-ID 4871288] Description The overall knowledge related to probiotic bacteria has in recent years significantly improved, therefore, it comes to no surprise that probiotics are taken up to use not only in the field of medicine, but also to nutrition. Researcher in our programme group have in the past significantly contributed to the expansion of this research areas. On this knowledge and experience we will build also in the period ahead. Major focus was devoted to the development of new and concrete solutions in the field of preventive medicine (field of regenerative medicine) and diet (e.g. food supplements, etc.). In some of the above mentioned sources, we have used advanced techniques for evaluation of interactions of bacteria with the human body, which will also be of paramount importance for future scientific breakthrough discoveries.

[COBISS.SI-ID 21754390] Description In recent years, a great deal of interest has been focused on the development of novel advanced interdisciplinary analysis methods. Also in this programme we use advanced interdisciplinary tools and methods in the characterization of interactions between different polymer carrier materials and bacteria or human cell and tissues. Additionally, we develop new protocols for the evaluation of the influence of different conditions on the skin (e.g. as a consequence of urination, defecation, changes in pH and T, etc.) on the materials used, attached probiotic bacteria, human cells and other components of the (model) materials that will be developed in this programme. Preparing the best possible model systems as an aid in understanding and cost-efficiency in the development of new solutions for biomedical applications, has always been of utmost importance in the transfer of research findings into clinical practice. The expansion of advanced techniques, the availability of industrial equipment on the laboratory scale, and an increase in interdisciplinary research in recent years, has lately provoked a number of pervasive discoveries.
