[COBISS.SI-ID 21441814] Description From 2017, our programme group spent an important part of the research in the last financing period to focus on the field of regenerative medicine. This is reflected in a high number of research papers, completed projects and other achievements in the last three years. Performance and research activities in this period and the impact of the results are also reflected in the numerous invited talks in the field of regenerative medicine (sources above). In recent years, we have largely focused on the search for new solutions in the field of regenerative medicine using biocompatible polysaccharides found in nature and other bioactive extracts from natural resources. The latter thus represent an almost inexhaustible source of raw materials, while our treatments and testing are oriented towards increasing their added value. In a series of invited lectures (sources above) we presented an overview of different combinations of materials, processes, testing approaches for various applications of polysaccharides in the field of biomedicine, with emphasis on regenerative medicine (mainly wound healing). Gathered experience in relation to use of polysaccharides for the preparation of new materials in regenerative medicine will be crucial also in this financing period, since similar solutions will be applicable also to other novel solution related to this field. Experience and visibility of previous achievements will contribute to a more rapid transition from laboratory research to clinical practice.

[COBISS.SI-ID 21957142] Description Members of the programme group have participated in a number of successfully completed projects, related to the core programme focuses. The project topics are connected to the development of new materials for biomedical use (regenerative medicine, spreading novel knowledge related to medicine), new diagnostic methods in clinical practice, as well as functional ergonomics, which significantly influences the occurrence of diseases and hence the overall quality of life. The acquired knowledge will help in achieving the objectives of the programme group (e.g. planning the commercialization of products in contact with bacteria, in development of multilayer materials in medicine, for development of novel diagnostic methods and tools, and in connection with the evaluation of the impact of various factors on human health and quality of life), while successful completion of these proves our previous experience in the implementation and management of projects.

[COBISS.SI-ID 6168127] Description Accumulated knowledge has no significance unless it is transferred forward to the next generation that will make use of the scientific and professional foundation, established by the “older fellows” in the group. Some of these results include cutting-edge research, which was partially paid by taxpayers' money, and hence our responsibility and privilege to pass it forward. Our work and research includes a number of young candidates from different fields and at different stages of their education. We are especially proud of the increasing number of PhD students that are mentored or co-mentored by members of our programme group. Some of these are considered as future principal investigators helping to push the results of our group even further towards implementation of our knowledge into practical solutions either in the clinic or industry. The above source list includes only PhD these and specialist mentorship, while mentoring and co-mentoring on other levels of education is listed below. Both lists include the overview of last three years only, which are also covered in the final report. Members of the programme group were mentors or co-mentors for: • 20 mentorships for diplomas of 1. Bologna level. • 26 mentorships for diplomas of 2. Bologna level. • 5 co-mentorships for diplomas of 1. Bologna level. • 9 co-mentorships for diplomas of 1. Bologna level.
