The ICIT&APT conference (International Conference on Industrial Tools and Advanced Processing Technologies) is a well-established and prominent event covering the ever important topics of industrial tools and production technologies. TECOS – Slovenian Tool and Die Development Center has been organizing it biennially since 1997. The last, jubilee 10th edition of the conference, ICIT & APT 2017, again took place in Ljubljana in the conference center of Hotel Union from 24 to 26 April 2017.

COBISS.SI-ID: 289985024In the organization of the Slovenian Foundrymen Society and Chair for foundry at Department of materials and metallurgy, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, University of Ljubljana and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Maribor a International Foundry Conference accompanied by the foundry exhibition toke place from 13th to 15th September 2017 in the Congress Center at the Hotel Slovenija in Portorož. Conference has been for more than five decades an essential gathering place for the eminent scientists and experts from universities and institutes, as well as the representatives of foundries and suppliers for the foundry industry. The Conference and Exhibition in Portorož was attended by the representatives of various national foundry associations and representatives of the WFO - World Foundry Organization, CAEF - the European Foundry Association and MEGI – the Central European Foundry Initiative.

COBISS.SI-ID: 291632128The aim of this research that was to develop high quality alloys, which have improved properties, while reducing the weight of the finished product used in the automotive industry and to achieve higher mechanical properties. Two alloys were developed, i.e. AlSi9Cu3 and AlSi10MnMg with additions of Zr and Mo that have favorable impact on the elongation in heat treated state.
F.09 Development of a new technological process or technology
COBISS.SI-ID: 1715295Soaking temperature and time of tool steels before hot deformation has detrimental influence on hot workability and on evolution of microstructure throughout the process and consequently on materials final properties. Diffusivity of alloying elements at high temperatures is large and in agreement with equilibrium phase diagram intensive nucleation, growth and/or dissolution of various phases, especially carbides. These processes are interconnected in a very complex way and are taking place simultaneously at different spatial scales. Deep understanding of e kinetics of these processes is essential for optimal design of the production technology of these steels. Using a specially designed laboratory tests we were able to determine optimal soaking time and temperature, which significantly contributed to the optimization of technology of M2 high speed tool steel production.
