Organization of the Slovene language learning as an extracurricular activity in the Varaždin County is an important achievement for the Slovene community as well as for the language vitality preservation. By carrying out the opinion poll amongst the students attending Slovene classes and their parents, we sought answers to the following questions: who are the children attending classes of Slovene language – are they Slovene minority members or others; is Slovene the first or the second/foreign language for these students; what was the children's and parents' motivation for the Slovene language acquisition; what are their attitudes towards the use and significance of Slovene and other languages and, last but not least, what is the level of their satisfaction with the language learning process. Based on analysis of the responses of students and parents, we try to assess the perspective of the Slovenian language learning in Varaždin County.
