A conference was organized. At the interdisciplinary conference, experts from different fields (pedagogy, psychology, medicine, technology, landscape architecture, cultural heritage protection, economy) presented their professional views on the area of schools and kindergartens. The principals of schools and kindergartens involved in the project participated. Opinions about the qualities that should be taken into account in the future when planning new buildings and renovations of kindergartens and schools were discussed. The final result of the project will be professional starting points, which will serve to update the existing ones or to prepare new general guidelines and recommendations for the design and construction of quality kindergartens and schools.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3554948Constructing innovative learning environments presents the response of the educational system to the demands of a modern society, which with the increasing complexity in the face of rapid economic and social changes mean for school a new challenge. Today's changes require the construction of a quality learning environment in which the student can develop the skills of the 21st century, such as creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, the ability to communicate effectively and the skills of mutual cooperation. Innovative learning environment can only be created when interacting with the teacher's responsible creativity and hearing, and taking into account the learner's initiatives, when the learner has space and time to find answers to the questions "how", "with what", and especially "why." In a time of high technological and media development, the school should provide pupils with access to information, enable them to use ICT tools in communication and learning, and opportunities for the creative co-creation of ICT content. As the quality of learning and teaching is always conditioned by the teacher's behaviour in tune with pupils and their learning needs, this is important even today, when ICT tools are included in the lessons.
F.01 Acquisition of new practical knowledge, information and skills
COBISS.SI-ID: 1540651972The Slovenian architect Emil Navinšek (1904-1991) is the author of an innovative, corridor-free design of school buildings. The design is characterized by spacious, central, multipurpose halls situated on each floor, which are naturally lit, ventilated and opened to the surroundings, with transparent staircases connecting the halls vertically. The corridor-free design was realized for the first time in 1936 at Bežigrad High School in Ljubljana. Using a systematic approach the architect designed 38 corridor-free school buildings up until the late 1960s as variants of the initial scheme. The principles of his design were studied on a sample of school buildings in Ljubljana. These buildings show evidence of use and face future challenges. Lecture specially focused on Emil Navinšek's design principles and selected examples of his school buildings in Ljubljana which were the main theme of Docomomo International Student Workshop.
