In the framework of the project TriN, we have established a pilot system of decision support for irrigation (SPON), which raises the technology of irrigation of agricultural land to a higher level. Due to precise irrigation, the consumption of water and energy is reduced, so there are less irrigation costs. The crops are of higher quality and their storage capacity is better. SPON enables the sustainable use of water for irrigation - it protects water resources in terms of quantity. Precise irrigation potentially reduces the pollution of pollutants to prose underground water and thus protects water resources from a quality point of view. The costs of operating the entire SPON (maintenance of bases, model propagation, etc.) should not be judged merely through the direct monetary benefits of the farmer (i.e., lower water consumption for irrigation, higher quality of produce, etc.) but also in the wider context, including environmental benefits. By more efficient use of water for irrigation, quantitative pressures on water resources are reduced. Precise irrigation also reduces the leaching of residues of nutrients and plant protection products and reduces pollution of groundwater. In this way, the introduction and active use of SPON contributes to the synergistic effect of agricultural and environmental policies.
