Abstract
In running water ecosystems biological processes can be estimated as changes in the structure of species within a biocenosis, changes of diversity, density, biomass, presence of bioindicators, etc. Biocenoses are influenced by several toxic substances and their influence can be evaluated directly in the environment or with selected toxicological tests, among which genotoxic and mutagenous ones are more recent and less investigated. In modern ecological evaluation methods a group of water invertebrates is often used as a basis for biotic indices. There are few data revealing the conditions in our waters, therefore the goal of the research is to investigate the adequacy of biotic indices using macroinvertebrates, further to include the analyses of macrophytes and water mosses, folow the physiological responses of the floral biocenosis and to find the connection between biotic indices and the genotoxicity of water and water sediments. It is the first widely devised ecotoxicological research dealing with our running waters and the linking of ecological and physiological methods is rather uncommon even abroad. Regarding it''s goals the project is entirely ecological.
