Abstract
The possibilities for improved controll of paretic foot utilizing a dual channel implantible FES system will be investigated. During gait, the system enables selective controll of ankle dorsiflexion and ankle eversion, respectively. A biomechanical and neurological model of ankle will be constructed. The biomechanical model will be based on measurements and analysis of biomechanical parameters in humans under different conditions: without stimulation, with transcutaneous FES and with single-channel implantable FES. The neurological modell will be based on animal experiments and on measurements of able-bodied subjects and subjects during implantation of single-channel implantable system. By the end of the project the first human implanytation of dual-channel implntable stimulator will be carried out.
