Abstract
Optical spectroscopy of low to high resolution will be used to test for presence and properties of mass flows in binary stars, active galactic nuclei and Solar system bodies. In particular, optical spectroscopy will be used to classify a large sample of (candidates for) cataclysmic variables and symbiotic stars. Properties of interstellar lines will be studied in order to check for their relation to reddening and distance of the objects observed. Theoretical models of mass transfer in the vicinity of compact objects will be developed and compared to results of optical and gamma-ray observations. Observability and spectroscopic properties of pulsars will be studied using a devoted stroboscopic device. A fully automatic system for detection and observation of so-far uncatalogued asteroids, comets and novae (ACIT- Automatic Comet Imaging Telescope) will be developed.
