Abstract
In spite of research and development of the product and process information management, documents remain the prevailing unit of information exchange in construction. We proposed that by document management, shallow levels of integration can be achieved and use the documents as test-bed for the future product-data oriented solutions. The key issues are: (1) what is the role of documents in construction information processes, (2) how to treat documents in a hybrid product data environment and as a bridge to the future product model based work (3) how to reduce the overheads induced by the use of construction management systems.
