Significance for science
Since 2003, the program group has successfully dealt with the problems of evaluating the structures that are loaded with extreme mechanical loads. The research results (publications, citations, doctor's thesis and other works, international and Slovenian projects) prove that the field of research is highly topical, the program group is successful internationally and possesses the knowledge and programme equipment to continue the work successfully. In the past years its work has resulted in important achievements. With its knowledge and know-how the program group significantly contributed to the success of the European project PROBELL in the 6th framework programme (project no. 015684). From the registered and accepted doctor's theses the program group expects knowledge improvement in the field of material models for the fatigue simulation of metal and non-metal materials, the modelling of high plastic deformations (Crash tests) and the modelling of the influence of increased and high temperatures for durability and reliability, as well as additional knowledge in the field of mixed distributions and other most important RMS evaluations. This project led to further scientific development of program group in the field of evaluating the structures that are loaded with extreme mechanical loads, and to the transfer of the knowledge and know-how into industry. In all this time, the transfer of knowledge and prosperous cooperation with CIMOS Koper and the other companies in centre CRV (TPV d.d., Hella Saturnus Slovenija d.o.o.) was going on.
Significance for the country
The program group has educated within CRV, the centre of development evaluation, new human resources for over a decade. Thus under-graduate as well as post-graduate students get ready for a smooth transition from the faculty to industry. This project enabled the development of human resources in a very specific field and transfer of this knowledge and know-how into industry. In this manner the project helped to rise the level of this specific knowledge in the company CIMOS and also in the other industrial partners within the centre CRV that encounter similar problems during the development of new products. Knowledge from this project was also applied in development of new automobile seat for company TPV. This helps to save the high-quality work places in the Slovenian industry and raise the competitive advantage of the Slovenian suppliers to the automotive industry.
