Abstract
The project includes two topics: dynamics of 1) soft matter and 2) magnetic gels. The starting point of the granular studies are two ongoing experiments at NIH (Bethesda, MD, USA) and at Universitaet Bayreuth (Germany), which we want to model theoretically by adopting existing and developing new continuum models, and by development of a numerical simulation. Magnetic gels will be treated hydrodynamically. We are particularly interested in instabilities and dynamics in magnetic field, which is, owing to the fast relaxation times, very important for future applications (soft actuators, artificial muscles).
