Abstract
The changes within the welfare paradigm and the changes within the social state demand the reconceptualisation of the social welfare system within the EU as well as within the local social contexts. In such context the historical understanding of social processes and the process of development of social work as a profession and science for people in need, is very important. The research project will look at the theoretical analysis of the development of social work, at the pioneers and the historical influence of social work for the social develoment on the Slovenian teritory in the past. The researh will analyse historical documents, the history of forms, approaches, methods, techniques, doctrines of social work in Slovenia throughout the 20th century. The research will use a systematic, reflexive and analytical approach. The data gathered will not be merely empirical material for a descriptive, factual, quantitative analysis but mainly the starting point for the consideration of new concepts, innovations, new qualitative research, etc., in the field of social work. Since there has been no systematic study of social work history yet, this research will be crucial for understanding the impact of social work as a profession on the development of the system pf public care, social solidarity, and the science of social work. Having a history of social work is also important for contemporary experts, who may by familiarising themselves with the historical roots of their profession, strengthen their professional identity. The first stage of the project will consist of collecting archive materials and oral data. Here, research methods and techniques of field work will be applied, that is, interview, story telling and document collecting. The second stage will consist of processing those materials and of the discoursive analysis of the data. The historical overview of social work in Slovenia documents will give us documents, which will enable us to a competent and substantiated discussion on individual concepts, approaches, methods, and techniques of social work. The periods in the history of social work in Slovenia are: the first period until the WWI, the second period between the two world wars, the third period between 1945 and 1990, the fourth period since 1991 until today.
