Abstract
Cross-cultural Study on the Rights of the Child is an ongoing international project, designed to gather data on subjective perspective of children (and significant adults) regarding the importance and the existence of children's rights, using internationally developed and comparable methodology. In the first (pilot) sweep in the 1990"s, 20 countries from almost all continents participated in the study. In this decade a new cycle has begun, with an improved research instruments and expanded methodological design. In this sweep Educational research institute and the principal investigator are assuming an integrative and coordinative role, in cooperation with Victoria University (Canada) and the CRISP international network. At the same time, Slovenia will also participate in the study with a national project.
The project is composed of three segments:
A) Secondary analysis of the previously gathered data (surveys in 1992, 1994/95, 2001 and 2003) using different variables and particularly from the point of view of protecting children"s rights in the school.
B) Promoting the study internationally, education and monitoring of the survey in other countries, integrating the international data-base following the completed surveys, production of the primary comparative statistics.
C) Critical analysis of the methodology, including the questionnaires, developing proposals for the follow-ups in the next international sweep, and development of an additional modul for use in Slovenia, should that prove necessary. Pilot testing of the developed improvements on the representative Slovenian sample.
