Abstract
The proposed project foresees processing and characterization of layered nanostructures and ordered two-dimensional nanoparticles arrays of various ceramic materials with the final aim to correlate the structure and chemistry of processed nanostructures with the resulting electrical, optical, mechanical and tribological properties. The investigated materials will include different dielectric and ferroelectric ceramic oxide materials, non-oxide ceramic materials and refractory nitrides. The new approach that will be used in processing of layered nanostructure will be to prepare functionally graded nanostructures where each layer will be a solid solution with different composition. In this way the structural differences between different layers will be minimized, which will enable preparation of defect-free layered nanostructures with improved physical properties.
