Abstract
to establish, combining the efforts of several disciplines (history, art history, ethnology, anthropology, economy, research of materials), the tastes of diverse social groups in different periods, had a decisive influence on the material culture in the Slovene territory; who shaped these tastes and which were the artefacts and objects through which the social groups built and maintained their self-image.
Significance for science
The research programme as we conceived it four years ago has shown to be exceptionally relevant to historiography in the widest sense and to many human and natural sciences, in particular museology. Every serious researcher of any field of the human sciences can identify himself with our research reproach; moreover, the theme opens up the field of the classical sciences and interconnect them. The research implemented and validated the cooperation of the human and natural sciences in the field of the movable cultural heritage. The theme and the approach to its execution were very interesting to the researchers and therefore yielded excellent results. All researchers wish to continue with the activities and, as a group we wish to conclude our findings and acquired Knowledge with a great survey exhibition, with the same title as the research programme in the national museum of Slovenia. In the field of natural science analyses of museum objects, we intend to define standards thet wil apply in Slovenia and we also intend to present them abroad.
Significance for the country
The research results were regularly published in scientific, professional and popular science periodicals, lexicons and encyclopaedias, aimed at the professional community and the wider public, in electronic and printed media, at scientific conferences in Slovenia and abroad, at our regular museum lectures, as guest lecturers in domestic and foreign museum institutions, in the education system as lecturers at universities, and elaboration of courses in the framework of the Bologna Reform. The museum is able to present a deepened knowledge of our past to people of every age. This must become a basis of the nation´s self-confidence and as such an important factor of the economic and social development. In 2006 the National Museum og Slovenia set up together with the Slovenian Thirg Age Ubuversity the first voluntary work scheme for elder adults in the field of cultural heritage in Slovenia. The cooperation was supported by the European Commision too. This so called cultural mediators are now able to work with the visitors of the exhibitions.
