Abstract
Suface properties of solid and semisolid materials will be studied by means of inverse gas chromatography. This is a method that has not been used in Slovenia. There are only a few centers with this equipment in the field of pharmacy (two in United Kingdom) and no one on the continet. In general phamaceutical active and excipients, polymers, foods ingredients, ingredients of paints, meterials used in building and many other industries can be tested by use of inverse gas chromatography. The proposal research will be concentrated only on pharmaceutical ingredients and its aim is the quantitative determination of surface properties of solid and semisolid materials. The surface properties can be expressed as a dispersive and polar part ( Lewis acid and Lewis base ) of surface energy. In addition, interactions between ingredinents ( i.e. in powder mixtures), of the samples could be studied. Surface properties parameters obtained by means of inverse gas chromatography can be used further as a screening test for differentiation between batches and the different suppliers of the same chemical entities thar could be essentially different in physico-technological behaviour. Surface properties can be used therefore for optimal selection of ingredients in pharmaceutical preformulation and formulation study phases.
