Abstract
In case that structural interventions are limited because of requirements of preservation and conservation of historical monuments, historical buildings can be seismically isolated. In such a case, either damp-proof courses or other types of slip joints, already existing in the walls, can be used or special seismic isolators can be built between the foundation and super structure. The effectiveness of both types of isolation will be investigated by testing a series of masonry building models on a shaking table.
