Abstract
The platform of this programme is to cultivate the whole spectrum of activities, including theoretical and experimental research, development of new systems and technologies, as well as transferring these into industrial, medical etc. practice. The main impetus of the programme is to investigate motion in “man and machine” with the goal to develop new manufacturing technologies, service and biomedical devices. The emphasis is on automatics, robotics, and information technologies. An extraordinary technological development in the recent years has set a new concept of manufacturing and service applications. Nowadays, they are seen as a symbiosis of humans (creativity, sensitivity, adaptability, etc.) and machines (reliability, possibility to work in hazardous environments, precision, better force-velocity capability, etc.), which requires a very strong interference between humans and machines and a capability of effective collaboration, partnership and communication. The elements of future manufacturing and service systems will be humanoid machines. They will have human-like motion, sensing, learning and decision-making abilities. Hence, our investigations are devoted to various up-to-date topics, which are fused in a unique term mechatronics. They include mathematical modelling of human and robot kinematics and dynamics, development of new control techniques, inspired by biological systems, with emphasis on force control and usage of kinematic redundancy. The major part of research is the area of human-like manipulation and mobility of robots. In the area of biocybernetics, the emphasis is on the development of special-purpose functional and therapeutical electrical stimulators and related rehabilitation procedures. The main guidance is to investigate in topics that rise from different branches of industry or medicine in order to serve people in their work and in increasing the quality of life. The research group is composed of reserachers specialising in different fields of electrical and mechanical engineering, mathematics and comupter science. This makes it possible to condact very complex and large-scale R&D projects.
