Abstract
The research field of the programme group “History of philosophy and phenomenology” extends over three great areas of philosophical inquiry: (1) history of philosophy, (2) phenomenology and (3) systematic philosophy. The work programme on history of philosophy comprises the study of main periods of European philosophy: Greek, Medieval and Renaissance philosophy, Modern and Contemporary philosophy with special emphasis on phenomenology, which is considered to be the basic European school of thought in the 20th century. The project includes also the history of Slovene philosophical tradition from Renaissance (Hvale) onwards and the development of phenomenology in Slovenia from F. Veber onwards. The research on Ancient philosophy is concentrated on following topics: (1) Early Greek philosophy (Presocratics), (2) Plato’s philosophy: dialectics and dialogue, ethics and politics, metaphysics and the tradition of Platonism, (3) fundamental problems of Aristotelian thought: logic and metaphysics, physics, ethics, political philosophy, rhetoric and poetics and the tradition of Aristotelianism. Special attention is focused on the modification of Greek ideas in the contemporary philosophical, artistic and scientific activities. The research of modern philosophy covers the history of philosophy from Descartes to Kant and describes how it constitutes our time on all cultural areas: knowlege and science, forml of society, ethics, aesthetics. The investigation of the 20th century philosophy concentrates primarily on phenomenology and philosophical hermeneutics. The main themes of the phenomenological section of the programme are: the problem of European sciences, scientific culture, forgettfulness of the world and “anonymity” of life. In the phenomenological philosophy of religion the onto-theo-logical structure of metaphysics will be studied and the notion of the sacred in Heidegger’s later thinkings as condition for the possible experience of God. Other phenomenological questions are: being and truth, Being of world and language, human being and values, history and identity, foundations of sciences, phenomenological aesthetics, the concept of cultural hermeneutics, phenomenology and history of philosophy, humanities and spiritual grounds of the present-day Europe. The research programme of systematic philosophy examines certain basic problems of ontology, metaphysics, ethics, aesthetics, philosophical anthropology and theory of knowledge, especiallz in the field of post-Kantian philosophy. One of the main issues is to establish metaphysics as an immanent and experiential discipline. The research in the field of ethics strives to ground it on non-metaphysical foundations. The research in the field of aesthetics deals with the philosophical problematics of beauty, arts and sensibility and throws light on the topical issues of contemporary aesthetics: aesthetic experience, milestones of the contemporary art, new media, art and philosphy of culture. The programme aims to develop the internal grounding of principal philosophical disciplines and contributes to the rounding up of philosophical systematics as the core of philosophical thought. Translations of classical philosophical texts form Greek, Latin and also from modern languages represent an important part of the whole research. They contribute to the constitution and development of Slovene philosophical language and are also of the utmost importance for the cultural development of the Slovene nation. Hermeneutic investigations of history of philosophy, phenomenological research of the fundamental horizonts of the human being in the world and systematic study of metaphysical and moral questions are producing a professional ground for the formation of our present life experience and of the present cultural and technical world. All these investigations also include an important segment of cultural interference as they arise in the dialogue with tradition and contemporara cult...
