Abstract
Within the framework of the program research has been undertaken in the fields of monetary policy, banking, corporate finance, public finance and international finance. Research was based on modern theory which was adapted for specificites of Slovenia as a small county in transition. All the research was supported by empirical studies and analysis. Research in monetary policy focused on instruments used by the Bank of Slovenia. These instruments were compared with those of the European Central Bank. Research on the Slovenian banking sector spawned insights in problems faced by banks when Slovenia joins the European Union. Currenty Slovenian banks are not compatible with rigorous competition of developed financial markets but they the process of consolidation is being intensified. Another topic addessed were the so called structural funds of the European Union. Slovenia has to prepare a clear and effective strategy on how to use these finds in order to accommodate the changes of inclusion into the European Union fast and relatively painless. In the field of real estate and housing market the analysis pointed out key problems and possible solutions to them. Also, the concept of taxation in Slovenia was examined to determine its weaknesses. Research has been done in cooperation with several partner institutions in Slovenia as well as abroad. Main partners abroad are University of Siena, University of Glasgow and Indiana University at Bloomington. The output of the program is a significant number of scientific articles, books and working papers.
