Abstract
Within the framework of the proposed research programme basic and applied research from construction, structure, planning, modern design and technological planning with the assistance of the CAD/CAM programmes in the production of linear and planar textiles and laminated and composite structures are planned. The knowledge gained through the planned research will enable the development of new machines and technological procedures with higher production, rational utilisation of all sources of energy, production of environment-friendly products, modern designed products, products with more invested knowledge and high productivity.
Theoretical research within the framework of the research programme will include study of physical-chemical phenomena in solutions in various types of dyes and textile auxiliaries (TA), where it is extremely important from a technological and ecological viewpoint to investigate the thermodynamics and kinetics of dye-TA, dye-fibre and TA-fibre interactions, and the kinetics and mechanism of the reactions of fixation and hydrolysis of reactive dyes. The results of the theoretical research will be transferred to the textile chemical processes such as dyeing, printing, finishing and textile care. Research of the changes of fibre structure after various treatments with the aim of increasing the degree of dye fixation is already underway, while in the future it will also be very current, as in that way we indirectly influence the economic effect of textile finishing and environmental protection.
The trend world-wide is for the widespread use of PA, PES and PAN fibres and microfibres alone and in mixtures with natural fibres, with which it will be necessary to investigate the influence of low molecular fractions in fibre polymers, introduce new technological approaches, among others finishing in waterless media and in media in conditions of fluidity. The influence of light on the stability of colour, as on the fibres themselves, the effect of new UV A and UV B absorbers and optical illumination and the effect of textile structure and colours on UV transparency, will be the key current field in the research programme.
From an ecological viewpoint it is important to approach the research of structure and characteristics of cotton fibres, which are produced without the use of pesticides or coloured during growth. We will also be included in research of the possibility of using biodegradable polymers for fibres. In the programme we will have the basic importance of research of the macromolecular structure of polyamide, polyester, their mixtures, wool, cotton, hemp, flax, polypropylene and polyethylene in connection with fibre characteristics. The study of composites of polypropylene and polyethylene in the concrete matrix and the influence of additives in the formation of polypropylene fibres and the technology of the transformation of flax, hemp and wool from Slovene native breeds are also important.
In the area of textile design the ethnological and historical starting-point for textile design, conceptualisation in the creative process, textile design and computer planning and design in the context of the modern understanding of the media will be researched.
