Abstract
During the exploatation of generator, the generator cap play an inportant role in generator’s block. It is high loaded with static or cyclic strengths. As a concequence of all this, fatigue cracks can occur. Because the generator coil is cooling with air or hydrogen gas, the humidity has an strong effect on development of different mode of stress corrosion cracks. Some analyses have shown that more dangerous corrosion fatigue can turn up. However, at specific type of generators, coils are cooling even by hydrogen, that means hydrogen embrittlement of metals appear, and due to action of different mechanisms, nucleation and propagation of cracks can arise. It has an inportant influence on residual life time of components, frequent control and refit. Due to mentioned degradation processes it is necessary to search real reasons for different failures of that essential part of industrial equipment. On this base we would like to capture this type of steel, which shows improved resistance to environment (corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement, fatigue) longer life time and better operation safety.
