Abstract
Heritage in action: Participatory methods and digital learning sources for inclusion of youth in heritage practices and education, where the researchers together with a High Performance Computing company – Arctur d.o.o (specialised in the use of digital technologies for cultural heritage) work on the challenge: how to develop and adapt material elements of cultural heritage embodied in memories and feelings to the contemporary techno-social challenges of digitization and what are the needs and expectations, methods and approaches, to make digital heritage appealing yet educational, and participatory. The research team works with a group of young people – who did not seem to be very interested in heritage or who found it boring, but are media literate – to discuss whether digitised cultural heritage published on social media might trigger their curiosity and active participation in the debate on the role of culture and heritage in a globalised world. The researchers actively participated in the lessons with the students, assisted in carrying out student ethnographic work, and collected their thoughts, ideas, opinions and suggestions on heritage and digital apps. In this project the ZRC SAZU team can actively cooperate with other partners as a thematic knowledge partner. According to ZRC SAZU's expertise in community engagement, participatory methods, digital humanity, digital heritage, etc., the ZRC SAZU team can actively participate in the development of training programmes (workshops), training materials (toolkits and handbook) for the active involvement of local citizens in media-based activities. Through project activities and in cooperation with other partners, we can also analyse participatory methods and ICT tools already developed and design new ones for different target groups (school children, young people, elderly people). In our experience, particular emphasis should be placed on how to actively motivate different stakeholders, especially young people, to participate as content developers. Together with the Municipality of Nova Gorica we can organise small groups where methods and tools could be tested and analysed.
