Abstract
Aim of the study is to demonstrate that FES(functional electrical stimulation) stimulates not only motor system, but modulates activitiy of autonomous system in paraplegic patients a well. Consequently, we will analyse influence of such stimulation on preservation of fertility in patients with paraplegia. FES is routine therapeutic method in patients with spinal cord injury. At 30 patioents with SCI we will perform standard neurophysiological investigation adding measurement of sympathetic skin response of hands and feet and sympathetic skin resistance response. Skin temperature will be measured by contact thermometry nad capillary blood circulation in the skin before and after performing FES. In patients interested in assessment of fertility, we will estimate spermal function before and after long lasting FES.
