Abstract
The principles of open societies are based on a promotion of mobility and migrations, therefore are prone to the problems of multicultural social environment. Issues are revolving around the social inclusion/ exclusion processes of ethnic groups and dilemmas of social cohesion. Classical concepts of integration will be considered (Burgess, Dunn) in respect to modern ones (Bonacich, Modell,Light, King), considering class and ethnic resources for integration. Models of economic adaptation versus ethnic assimilation will be discussed through secondary analyses of data, ethnic networks examination in Slovenia and ethnomethodological analyses of immigrants in Scandinavia (Garfinkel, 1967). Basic for the research is the assumption, that opening up of former socialist countries is followed by the ever increasing restrictions for migrations from developed countries in EU and elsewhere. The obstacles for mobility of people (and not only labour force) are forms of institutional discrimination and in the local environments increasing conflicts or racism.
