Abstract
Photoreceptors communicate with cells in retina by secretion of glutamate. The understanding of mechanisms controlling the release of glutamate in vertebrates is critical for the understanding of vision health and in diseased states leading to blindness. The process is different in comparison to the exocytosis in neurones, and is mostly unknown. We will investigate the secretion of glutamate in photoreceptors by electrophysiology and fluorometry, which is an approach not used until now.
