Abstract
Syncope is a transient and complete loss of consciousness with loss of postural tone and with spontaneous recovery over seconds to minutes. It is a common medical problem. It has been estimated that 20% of the adult population experienced syncope at some time in their lives. Even though the etiopathogenesis of syncope is not clear. There is more and more evidence of the evolvement of the autonomic nervous system. However, it is not clear which part of it has the predominant role in each phase of the syncope. Only recently, after the introduction of tilt-test and computer based hemodinamic monitoring, a detail study of the etiopathogenesis of the syncope has become possible. The purpose of our present work is to define the role of the sympathetic nervous system in the etiopathogenesis of syncope using the analysis of the heart rate variability and some other functional tests of autonomic nervous system in three different groups of patients: a) patients with chronic orthostatic intolerance, b) patients with familiar cardiomyopathy with syncope and c) patients with aortic stenosis./
