Abstract
In the project, we shall explore those fundamental physical properties of manufacturing processes which result from interactions of many fundamental dynamic phenomena and lead to complex nature of dynamics of manufacturing processes. Our research will cover mainly cutting manufacturing processes, such as turning, milling, and grinding. The basic task will be experimental exploration, followed by characterization of self-organizing, deterministic, and stochastic properties of a process. Based on process charaterization, possibilites of process control will be analysed. A portion of the research will be devoted to analytical modeling of processes and to development of experimental methods and methods for analysis of stochastic processes. In addition to the latter, methods stemming from non-linear and chaotic dynamics will be applied for the purpose of process characterization. Experimental work will be oriented primarily towards the analysis of chatter which represents an unfavorable cutting phenomenon.
