Abstract
The aim of the project is to develop novel techniques for adaptive cancellation of telephone line-echo for the purposes of automatic spoken dialog systems as well as for the purposes of hands-free telephony, where acoustic echo is also present. The main hypothesis is the possibility of deriving the analytically optimal time-variant adaptive stepsize control. By achieving this, we would disprove the need for a standard echo cancellation module - a double-talk detector, leading to a better compensation of all types of echoes.
