Abstract
Exposure to genotoxic pollutants represents seriuous envoronmental and health threat. This has lead to the requirement for reliable methodologies to monitor potential impact upon exposed polulations. Interactions of xenobiotics with DNA and cellular DNA repair mechanisms are indicatiors of the effects that might lead to the development of cancer. We will explore genotoxic effects of cadmium, lead and radon on cellular DNA repair capacity and potential consequences for humans and environment. We supose that in exposed populations cellular DNA repair capacity is affected, leading to enhanced risk for cancer.
